Build Your Technology Experience Cards: A Toolkit for Tech Coaches and Integrators

The BYTE Cards were created by Jamey Everett (Park Tudor School) and Jen Uhl (Cranbrook Schools) as a tool for integrators and coaches. As Integrators themselves, Jamey and Jen found a real need to change the dynamic of "collaborative" conversations between integrators and teachers: from expert/novice to listener/designer. Teachers know what kind of learning experience they WANT to design for students, but they sometimes just need inspiration to turn their ideas into reality.  The BYTE Cards put teachers in the drivers seat of design; integrators use the cards to help teachers reach their learning design goals.

How to use the BYTE Cards

A truly collaborative experience starts with listening. As the integrator actively takes notes on a teacher's design ideas, the cards become a reflective tool for what the integrator heard. After hearing all that a teacher imagines, or struggles with, the integrator uses the cards to reinterpret the teacher's goals by offering 2-5 suggested Cards. When flipped over, the Cards provide suggestions for apps and websites that students might use to achieve a specific instructional goal.

What to know about the Cards

The Cards are written based on ISTE's Student Standards, and reprinted with ISTE's permission. The additional "back" of each Standard card was created by Jamey and Jen. The cards may not be in the correct order in the Slideshow below, but they are numbered according to the ISTE Standards. You may download the images to use for Educational or Coaching purposes.
